Exhibition in memory of 1903 Jewish pogrom's victims inaugurated at Moldovan parliament's headquarters

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament hosts an exhibition of archive photos and documents, meant to commemorate the victims of the Jewish pogrom from Chisinau. The exhibition marks the 120th anniversary of the pogrom from 6-8 April 1903.
The photographs show pictures from the pogrom’s period: people, including children, killed with brutality, processions of victims’ burial, injured people in hospital, devastated Jewish houses, destroyed dwellings, ravaged streets and shops, profaned Jewish writings. The archive documents, dating back from the period 1903-1907, show diverse approaches of the then authorities and make reference to the events which took place: the protocol of the meeting of the committee on assisting the people who suffered, inquiries at the Chisinau law court on establishing the guilt of the people who participated, health records from the Jewish hospital and the hospital of Zemstvo from Chisinau on the people hit, the report of the Chisinau-based gendarmerie, etc.
The exhibits belong to the National Agency of Archives. The exhibition could be visited during April. Forty nine Jews were killed and another over 600 were injured at the Pogrom in Chisinau 120 years ago.
