Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Energocom company in Athens has signed an EFET framework contract with the Greek gas operator DEPA. Also, the company of Greece is to help Energocom with experience in the gas industry. The signing of the document took place during a visit to Greece by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and the Energocom stock company’s acting director, Victor Banzari.
The EFET (European Federation of Energy Traders) contract precedes any contract on sale and purchase and is compulsory between the companies from the European Union.
„The cooperation between Moldova and Greece will allow us consolidating the role of the underground gas deposits from Ukraine for the supply of the Central Europe with natural gas on the cold period of the year. The experience of Energocom from the last season, of using the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector, showed the feasibility of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline in reverse regime,’’ Energy Minister Victor said.
Greece is presently a strategic point of accessible energy sources. The country has a terminal of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the second one will be ready in the end of this year. ‘’At this terminal, traders from the region bring gas from more geographical points – East, United States, Africa and the prices are more advantageous,’’ the Energocom stock company’s acting director, Victor Banzari, said.
According to the Energy Ministry, Energocom is the first and, for the time being, the only company of the world which has practical experience of using the ‘vertical corridor’’ Greece-Bulgaria-Romania-Moldova-Ukraine.
