Chisinau, Apr. 7 /MOLDPRES/- A citizen of the Republic of Moldova generates 360 kg of household waste annually, a volume increasing from year to year. About 90% of the waste collected by sanitation companies is deposited in landfills, being buried. The government, with the help of development partners, has started an extensive process of organizing the waste management system in order to make energetic use of accumulated garbage and obtain electricity, as well as thermal energy, as is practiced in many developed countries.
The USAID project "Energy Security of the Republic of Moldova" (MESA- Moldova Energy Security Activity), set out to analyze the composition of the garbage dump from several cities and municipalities in the country for a year, in order to find the best technology for processing waste for our country.
The amendments proposed by the Ministry of Energy to the Law on promoting the use of energy from renewable sources aim to stimulate investments in new technologies in waste processing plants, including wastewater, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Carolina Novac said.
The European Energy Community found that in 2022 the Republic of Moldova was a leader in the reform of the energy sector and in the transposition of EU legislation.
