Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - The head of state today discussed with the members of the Life without Violence National Coalition, who make efforts to combat the violence against women and the domestic one. President Maia Sandu thanked them for the work they carry out to prevent the cases of violence, as well as for the help they provide to women victims - temporary shelter and long-term support, the presidential press service has reported.
„The women who flee violence, often accompanied by smack children, want to be able to bring up their children in peace and live their lives in dignity. Annually, about 40 women died in the wake of acts of domestic violence, while many of those who remain alive get to be represented in other official statistics or continue to bear suffering and humiliation without knowing that they can ask for assistance. Often, in order to get victims out of this circle of violence, our everybody’s involvement is needed,’’ the head of state said.
The Moldovan president informed that, in the next weeks, the government would approve a national programme on combating the violence against women. ‘’Beyond the efforts due to taken by institutions, I rely on the involvement of us, all citizens, in assisting instead of condemning women victims of the violence! I urge you not to tolerate and not to ignore the acts of violence, to give a helping hand when your assistance is necessary and to inform children, no matter how small they are, about the importance of the self-respect and respect for the others!,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
