Chisinau, April 8 /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan-Azerbaijani commercial relations will provide new opportunities for the development of the agro-industrial sector. An agenda to this end was discussed by Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry Sergiu Gherciu, who yesterday had a meeting with Khalaf Khalafov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

Sergiu Gherciu emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that there is interest in the Azerbaijani market. "For us, penetrating any market is a success. Especially now, when Moldova has the status of a candidate country for EU accession. Economic agents emphasize the quality and safety of products, therefore, the export potential is increasing. We have the possibility to export wines, planting material, cereals, poultry, sunflower oil, etc. We are open to developing joint projects in the agricultural sector," the official said.

For his part, Khalaf Khalafov said that Azerbaijan is open to the intensification of Moldovan-Azeri trade relations. "We want to give a new impetus to this collaboration. For us, Moldova is quite attractive, because you are on the border with the EU, therefore, we can create joint enterprises. Agriculture is a priority and a lot could be invested in this field", he said.

The next steps on expansion of economic relations will be set within the Moldovan-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission.

The Moldovan-Azeri bilateral trade volume amounted to 11.3 million US dollars in 2022, which remained practically at the same level compared to 2021. Currently, 115 Azerbaijani companies are registered in our country.
