Chisinau, April 12 /MOLDPRES/- The submarine electric cable that will connect Azerbaijan and Georgia to Romania, under the Black Sea, will bring electricity at affordable prices to the region, from which the Republic of Moldova will also be able to benefit. The issue was discussed at a meeting between Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov and Ambassador of Georgia to Moldova Levan Diasamidze.
"We couldn't even dream of this project, supported by the European Union, 5-10 years ago. The war in Ukraine has completely changed the situation in the region, and Russia has lost all instruments of influence," said the Minister of Energy.
Georgia has valuable experience in the development of hydropower, including small and medium-sized plants. After the underwater investment, hydro energy from the Caucasus area could be useful in balancing the market in the Republic of Moldova, added the minister.
"We have a common history and I'm sure we also have a common future with the civilized world," said Georgian Ambassador Levan Diasamidze.
Cooperation in the energy sector with the Georgian side is to be developed within the Moldovan-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Collaboration due to meet on May 23-24.
