Chisinau, April 12 /MOLDPRES/- The evaluation and selection mechanism  of judges will be improved. Cabinet today approved a draft Law on selection and performance evaluation of magistrates, which provides for the revision and increase of clarity of the criteria and selection procedure of candidates for the judge position. To optimize the process, the Selection Board and the Evaluation Board will be merged, and the new Board will be made up of nine members, including six judges and three representatives of civil society, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Also, the document sees amendments to selection criteria of candidates for the judge position and the evaluation indicators of magistrates.

"People who have been members of a political party in the last 5 years, who do not have law studies or a minimum length of work in the legal field will not be able to be appointed to the position of member of the CSEJ", Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru said.

Also, the new Law regulates the weight of each criterion in relation to the final evaluation score and provides for the increase from 3 to 5 years of the periodicity of the ordinary evaluation. At the same time, the court's president was excluded from the list of subjects who have the right to initiate the extraordinary evaluation of judges' performances.
