Chisinau, April 12 /MOLDPRES/- Operators will be able to contribute to reducing up to 90% of the volume of waste reaching the landfill, using an environmentally harmless incineration procedure. Government approved today at the initiative of the Ministry of the Environment, the Regulation on waste incineration and co-incineration. Thus, the aim is to gradually reduce the land surfaces subject to contamination through waste storage, in parallel with a high level of energy and material recovery.

According to the government's communication and protocol department, the document establishes operating conditions and strict technical requirements, by establishing emission limit values for incineration and co-incineration facilities. Also, the project provides for restrictions on the incineration of waste, conditions for transporting waste to incineration facilities, as well as measures to control emissions and discharge of pollutants into the environment.

The implementation of the provisions of the Regulation will contribute to the gradual improvement of the quality of the environment, air, water, soil and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, primarily methane emissions, as well as reducing risks to human health, related to the pollution of environmental components.

"The document will have a positive effect not only for reducing environmental pollution with waste, but will also contribute to reducing the energy crisis, using waste in the energy process as an alternative fuel", said Minister of Environment Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov.

Among the conditions that required the drafting of the document, we can mention the lack of infrastructure for planning, organizing and implementing an integrated waste management system at all levels, as well as the low rate of connection of the population to waste collection services.

The monitoring and implementation of the Regulation will be carried out by the Environment Agency.
