Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ - The products and services with a low impact on the environment will be promoted through a volunteer system of ecological labelling. The regulation was worked out by the Environment Ministry, with the support of the regional project, EU4Environment for Eastern Partnership countries (UNEP/AO EcoContact), financed by the European Union.
The government today approved a decision to this effect and it envisages the putting of the ecological label, which will provide consumers’ informing about the products’ quality and will contribute to the doubling of the volume of exports of native products and services to the EU market.
The regulation on the ecological labelling establishes the requirements, procedure of verifying the compliance of the products and services, criteria for providing the ecological label, as well as the procedure of monitoring the ecologically labelled products and services. The erroneous informing of consumers about the products’ quality will be thus voided. Presently, some economic agents use such inscriptions as ‘’ecological,’’ ‘’green’’ and ‘’eco’’ in an unjustified way.
„By enforcing the Regulation, decision-makers have the goal to ensure a fair competition, maintain and justify the consumers’ confidence in the ecologically labelled products and services, to reduce the negative impact of production’s consumption on the environment, health, climate and natural resources,’’ Environment Minister Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov said.
