Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/ - A joint declaration of the foreign affairs and defence ministers of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine was signed in Bucharest today. The document’s signing was preceded by a trilateral meeting of the officials.
Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu has said the declaration represented an important document, focused on security-related subjects. ‘’The document is focused on the development of the relations between the three countries in the political, economic, defence, security, culture sectors. We also express wish for our cooperation to be strengthened including as regards the combating of the effects of the war and fighting the Russian propaganda and misinformation. The document emphasizes the commitment for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders. We also underline the importance that this year, both Ukraine and Moldova get the starting of the negotiations on accession, in order to become full-fledged EU member states,’’ Bogdan Aurescu said.
Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said that the war in Ukraine had dramatically hit the entire European continent and its negative impact was felt by each citizen of Moldova. ‘’Moldova continues to be a target of the hybrid actions and attempts of destabilization. Today we stressed the fact that Moldova is not threatened militarily. This is due to the capacity and resistance of Ukraine. This allows us maintaining the peace and stability in Moldova. Yet, Moldova continues to cope with hybrid-type threats, attempts of destabilization, attempts of energy pressure, which we are able to cope with. We are capable of maintaining peace and calm on the territory of our country,’’ the Moldovan minister noted.
The first trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers from Moldova, Romania and Ukraine took place in Odessa in September 2022.
