Moldovan parliament takes note of activity report of Audiovisual Council for 2022

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today took note of the activity report of the Audiovisual Council (CA) for 2022.
CA head Liliana Vitu presented the report in the parliament’s plenum. She informed that, last year, the Council had imposed 447 sanctions to the providers of media services and distributors for the non-observance of the legislation which regulates the activity in the audiovisual sector. It is about 235 fines worth 2,340,000 lei in all and 212 public warnings.
According to the report, 95 sanctions were imposed for the infringement of the Article 13 of Moldova’s media audiovisual services code, which regards the ensuring of a correct informing. At the same time, during 2022, the CA members paid special attention to the way the subjects on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the security crisis in the region are publicized. The Council’s members found out that some TV stations did not ensure the correct informing, infringing the principles of good faith, impartiality, balance of opinions and separation of deeds from opinions. As a result, 55 sanctions worth 213,000 lei in all were imposed.
The Audiovisual Council also initiated, ex-officio, the control on the correctness the subjects on refugees and the decision on banning the symbols showing the military aggression were covered. CA also initiated, ex-officio, a monitoring concerning the linguistic level in some news and debates programmes.
