Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Culture Ministry recommends the preservation and restoration of the portions preserved of the pavement of the street, the reconstitution of the lost portions of pavement with stones of the same kind from other segments of the 31 August 1989 Street or of the historical nucleus of the Chisinau city.
The recommendations were made following a working meeting on the report by the National Archaeology Agency concerning the historical pavement made of granite on the 31 August 1989 Street in the centre of the Moldovan capital.
Also, the experts summoned by the Culture Ministry consider that the most opportune possibility of proper turning to account of the historical pavement made of granite on the 31 August Street is through transformation of the segment between the Alexandr Pushkin and Metropolitan Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni streets into a pedestrian area.
At the same time, the Culture Ministry describes as abuse the practices of the Chisinau city hall to start repair works in the historical zone of the capital, leaving aside the notification by the National Council of Historical Monuments (CNMI) and the National Archaeology Agency. At present, decision-makers recommend the delimiting and tightening the security of the area where the pavement was found, as the reconstruction in this area will be resumed only after the carrying out of the restoration project, approved properly.
In the context, the Culture Ministry assumes the launch of public discussions and the outlining of a vision as to the creation of tourist pedestrian areas in the historical centre of the city. These proposals will be discussed with the expert and representatives of the civil society, as well as with Chisinau city hall’s representatives. The recommendations generated can be included in the draft on elaboration of the Zonal Urban Plan of the Centre of Chisinau (PUZ Centru).
In last March, during works on rehabilitation of the 31 August 1989 Street from the capital, in the area between the Alexandr Pushkin and Metropolitan Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni streets, a paved stone road was discovered, dating back from the 19th century. The documentation and the studying of the old paved road, the researches were carried out by a group of archaeologists.
