Moldovan writer passes away

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - Poet and prose writer, holder of the Labour Glory order Iuliu Cârchelan died at the age of 86 years today.
The head of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Teo Chiriac, said writer Iuliu Cârchelan had dedicated his entire life to the literature for children and adults.
Writer Iuliu Cârchelan was born in the Alexandru Ioan Cuza village, southern Cahul district, on 25 December 1936. He graduated from the Philology Faculty of the Moldovan State University in 1960. The writer worked at leading publishing houses from Moldova. In 1992-94, he acted as special correspondent and during 1994-2004 – deputy editor-in-chief of the Florile Dalbe weekly publication.
Carchelan deputed as poet in the Tinerimea Moldovei (Moldova’s youth) newspaper in 1957. (1957).
The poems and prose by Iuliu Cârchelan were translated in more languages, being published in the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, etc. He translated from the Russian, Spanish, Italian, French, English literature, etc.
The writer will be buried at the Central Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street from Chisinau.
