State to support sheep and goat sector to make it profitable

Chisinau, April 18 /MOLDPRES/- The state supports the sheep and goat sector, because the livestock of productive animals must increase, and businesses in the branch must become profitable, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry said at a meeting with farmers last week.

"It is necessary to put order in this area. Pastures must be cultivated, sown with fodder crops. It is necessary to respect the grazing periods. In the future, we expect to grant subsidies for this purpose. At the same time, we will also support the construction of mini-slaughterhouses", he said.

For their part, the farmers proposed some solutions, which they believe will change things for the better. They also addressed marketing lambs slaughtered under slaughterhouse conditions as well as under home conditions.

This year, 25 million dollars will be invested in the livestock sector in the Republic of Moldova, to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of farms. Additional financial support will be provided by the World Bank.
