Foreign affairs minister says Moldova stays firm in promotion of interethnic understanding

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Director of the Russian and Eurasian Affairs of the American Jewish Committee, Dr. Sam Kliger, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
The officials discussed the way the organization can play an active role in the facilitation of the country’s dialogue with the USA and the State of Israel. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of the close cooperation in the promotion of the democratic values and the human rights, as well as in combating the antisemitism and the promotion of the culture of memory and tolerance in Moldova and the entire region.
„We discussed also topical subjects of the interaction with the Jewish communities, including the 120th anniversary of the Chisinau Pogrom. In the context, I reiterated the Moldovan government’s commitment to honour the memory of the victims and promote and protect the Jewish legacy in Moldova.
Moldova stays firm in the promotion of the interethnic understanding and adopts measures to cultivate the memory of the Holocaust, combat the antisemitism and other forms of xenophobia or intolerance, based on ethnic, religious or other kinds of criteria. We will facilitate the knowledge of the lessons of history, which must not be repeated,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.
