Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - The head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), Veronica Dragalin, today gave a news conference, during which she provided details from the file on the fled MP, Ilan Shor. Dragalin noited that the fact that Shor held also the citizenship of the State of Israel did not mean that he would not be extradited.
According to the PA head, the file in which the fled lawmaker was prosecuted was procrastinated and legislative amendments are needed, in order to omit such cases.
Dragalin also said that, ‘’if Ilan Shor was in Moldova, he would have been sent directly to penitentiary.’’
„The Justice Ministry has competence to send applications on extradition following the conviction phase. The fact that Ilan Shor holds also the citizenship of Israel does not mean that he cannot be extradited. There are precedents. In the end, the decision will be taken by the authorities from Israel; we communicate with the counterparts from Israel,’’ Dragalin noted.
The PA head specified that there are 55 people with status of accused persons in the Bank Fraud file. More episodes have been already sent to court, among which the one of the former deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Emma Tabarta.
On 13 April this year, the Court of Appeal convicted the fled MP, Ilan Shor, to 15 years of imprisonment, due to be served in penitentiary. The ruling is final.
