Chisinau, April 27 /MOLDPRES/- State Flag Day is marked in Moldova today.
State Flag Day was set up by Chisinau Parliament on April 23, 2010. The tricolor was officially designated as the state flag on April 27, 1990 after a long speech delivered in Parliament by Alexandru Moșanu. He spoke then about the historical truth, about the valences of the national colors, about the massive support the Tricolor enjoys among the citizens and about the lack of alternatives. Almost 290 deputies from the first Legislature voted for the Tricolor, and the Transnistrian delegation left the meeting hall through the back door.
In the eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova, the Tricolor was not recognized. On May 1, 1990, a popular rally was held in Chisinau with the participation of the country's leadership, at which the Tricolor dominated the entire landscape. In Tiraspol and other Transnistrian cities the tricolor had not been hoisted.
In 2012, on the occasion of the State Flag Day of the Republic of Moldova, in the Grand National Assembly Square in Chisinau, on a 30-meter-high flagpole, a huge flag, measuring 7x3.5 meters, was hoisted.
On the occasion of this holiday, cultural-educational activities are organized, book exhibitions on the history of the state and the evolution of flags throughout the history of our country, thematic excursions dedicated to the State Flag Day.
