Moldovan president decorated international chess master Viorel Iordachescu with Order of Republic

Chisinau, April 27 /MOLDPRES/- Yesterday President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu handed the Order of the Republic award to chess grandmaster Viorel Iordachescu, co-founder of the National Chess Academy of Moldova.
According to the presidential press service, the award was given to him as a sign of high appreciation of his outstanding merits in promoting chess among young people from Moldova and abroad, for outstanding professional successes both on the national and international stage, as well as on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova.
The head of state expressed her appreciation that through his work, perseverance and talent, master Iordachescu made a great contribution to placing the Republic of Moldova on the chess map of the world, he discovered, launched and promoted talents that shone at the highest podiums. Viorel Iordachescu represented the Republic of Moldova at numerous tournaments, European and World Championships and Chess Olympiads, and since 2010 he is the president of the National Chess Academy of Moldova. Thanks to the master's efforts, chess became a subject taught in many schools in Chisinau, and several chess teachers benefited from tournaments and refresher courses.
