State Flag Day celebrated in Moldova

Chisinau, April 27 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova marks State Flag Day today. Attending the solemn ceremony were President Maia Sandu, Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In her speech, the head of state spoke about the major symbolic role played by the tricolor in gaining the independence, freedom and sovereignty of our country.
"Three decades ago, when our people were fighting to regain their national identity, the tricolor was a true symbol of courage, dignity, freedom and our future. Today, under this flag, the fame of our country is carried around the world. Now, more than ever, we must be united under the colors of the tricolor, to work together side by side to build a prosperous, safe and European Moldova", said Maia Sandu.
Dorin Recean said "the national flag flies proudly in every locality in the country, as well as in the homes of our citizens in the diaspora and at diplomatic missions of the Republic of Moldova around the world. The tricolor is worn with dignity at European and international competitions and is respectfully honored by our servicemen in peacekeeping missions. Honor to the tricolor!".
The tricolor was designated as the state flag on April 27, 1990 by the deputies of the first Parliament, being hoisted on the Legislature building on the same day. State Flag Day was established by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on April 23, 2010.
