Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today adopted, in the second reading, a draft law which provides for new measures of consumers’ protection, through providing more information on the content of food products.

The document sees that the products’ labels will compulsorily contain information on the presence of allergens, as well as on the presence or absence of gluten in food products. The label will also indicate the origin country or the place of origin of the primary ingredient, which is not the same with the origin country or the place of origin specified of the food product. The draft’s authors also propose the labeling of the fowl, pork, as well consumption eggs with the mention, Nourished without genetically modified organisms or Nourished without GMO.

At the same time, a group of MPs of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has in parliamentary procedure a legislative initiative, which stipulates a stricter regulation of the labeling of food products which contain trans fatty acids. At a proposal by the parliamentary commission for agriculture and food industry, these drafts were merged, for reasons that both initiatives make amendments to the law on informing the consumers about the food products.
