Over 13 million border crossings recorded in nine years since liberalization of visa regime with EU

Chisinau, April 28 /MOLDPRES/- In nine years since the liberalization of the visa regime with the European Union, more than 13 million crossings of Moldovan citizens with biometric passports were recorded on the way out of the country through the crossing points located on the border with Romania and through the Chisinau International Airport.
According to the Border Police data, from year to year, the number of Moldovan citizens who benefit from the liberalized visa regime is continuously increasing. Thus, in the last year alone, the number of crossings increased by over two million.
On the way out from the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, the most crossed border crossing point was Leușeni - Albita, the border police fixing a number of about 5 million crossings, followed by Sculeni with 2.7 million crossings and Cahul – with 1.5 million crossings.
Since April 28, 2014, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, holders of biometric passports, enjoy the cancellation of visas for short-term trips in the member states of the European Union, as well as in the non-member states that are part of the Schengen area.
