Moldova's General Assembly of Judges nominates four members in Supreme Council of Magistracy

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - The magistrates present at the General Assembly of Judges today nominated those four members due to represent them at the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) and an alternate member.
Thus, Vasile Șchiopu was elected CSM member with 220 votes for a six-year mandate. Ioana Chironeț was elected with 215 votes. A number of 185 magistrates voted for Sergiu Caraman and 158 – for Maria Frunze. Lidia Mitrofan will be alternate member in CSM.
Those five judges, all lower court ones, passed the evaluation of the Pre-Vetting Commission and meet the criteria of ethic and financial integrity.
The new Superior Council of Magistracy is to be made up of 12 members: six ones on behalf of judges and six non-judges elected by the parliament.
Presently, CSM works with four members, of whom three are non-judges elected following the holding of the evaluation contest of the Pre-Vetting Commission.
Over 300 judges out of those 400 ones from the system participated in the today’s General Assembly of Judges.
