Chisinau, May 6. /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova intends to align itself with the EU's decision to set a temporary measure on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine with transit through our country. The intention was communicated by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, who today had a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykola Solski.
According to Bolea, the amount of domestic grain in warehouses is high, which puts pressure on farmers. "They are worried that they will not have spaces for the new crop. At the same time, the domestic grain export trend has a downward trend, logistics expenses have increased and prices on international exchanges have collapsed. Our farmers need to use their grain stocks and prepare for the new farming season. We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people who are forced to face multiple challenges in this war, and we strongly condemn the atrocities of the aggressors. It is important for us to have a constructive dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities and we are open to discuss the next steps to solve the problems of the farmers of both peoples", he said.
Recently, several states in the European Union have restricted imports of Ukrainian products following protests by farmers who cannot sell their crops due to oversupply.
