Communities in border area to benefit from European development funds

Chisinau, May 18. /MOLDPRES/- Communities in the border area throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova and in the counties of Iasi, Galaţi, Vaslui and Botoşani, Romania, will benefit from financing for the implementation of development projects. This will be possible within the Interreg NEXT Romania - Republic of Moldova 2021-2027 Program, launched on Wednesday in Iasi, which has a total budget of over 85 million euros.
The areas covered by the program are health, education, tourism and culture, climate change, good governance and border management. Thus, medical units and educational institutions will be equipped and modernized, tourist attractions will be rehabilitated and partnership projects can be carried out to improve border management. Also, the staff in these areas will be able to benefit from joint training and training, exchange of best practices, and information and awareness campaigns for disaster prevention and response will be organized for the population in the area.
The Interreg NEXT program has a total budget of 85.8 million euros, of which 77.2 million euros represent non-refundable European funds, and 8.5 million euros is the national contribution.
Minister of Finance Veronica Sirețeanu said that for the Republic of Moldova these European funds represent an important source of financing the development of communities.
