Chisinau, June 14. /MOLDPRES/- The head of Moldovan diplomacy, Nicu Popescu, began his working visit to Paris with a meeting with Catherine Colonna, French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the MAEIE press service has reported.

The officials discussed Moldova's European integration and welcomed the discussions within the European Union on accelerated enlargement, an aspect also mentioned by President Macron at press conference at the European Political Community Summit in Moldova.

"I expressed my hope that our significant progress in implementing the nine recommendations of the European Commission will serve as a solid basis for the start of accession negotiations by late 2023. In this regard, we count on the firm support of France", said Nicu Popescu.

Popescu expressed gratitude to France for the support in signing the agreement on reducing roaming tariffs, an important step to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union.

"We also said we are engaged in a continuous dialogue with our French partners regarding the recognition of driving licenses and the signing of a social protection agreement. We also discussed the importance of the rapid ratification of the Moldovan-French convention on avoidance of double taxation. We also addressed other particularly relevant projects, such as Moldova Support Platform, initiated by France, Germany and Romania. I informed that the next meeting of this platform will take place in Chisinau this October.

Popescu pays working visits to France and Malta on June 13-16 to deepen the bilateral dialogue, discuss the European agenda and boost the process of our country's accession to the EU.
