More universities of Moldova to be modernized: over 33 million lei allocated from budget to this end

Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/ - More universities this year will benefit from additional financing from the budget worth 33 million lei (1.65 million euros). The money will be used for the modernization of the university infrastructure.   

Thus, 19.1 million lei will be distributed for the renovation of the blocks and lecture rooms, 11.9 million lei – for the improvement of the conditions in student hostels and another 2 million lei – for the endowment of laboratories and lecture rooms. The funds are earmarked based on a regulation for additional financing. The proposals were analyzed and selected by a commission set up by the competent ministry.   

‘’The modern infrastructure is one of the basic conditions for ensuring the quality of the university studies. Through the financing which we provide today, we are set to ensure better conditions for education and living for students,’’ Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala said.   

The following higher education institutions will benefit from additional financing: State University of Moldova, Technical University of Moldova, Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University, Academy of Economic Studies from Moldova, Alecu Russo State University from Balti, Grigore Tamblac State University from Taraclia, Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu State University from Cahul, State University of Physical Education and Sport.     

The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) noted that 13 universities and pedagogic colleges went through a comprehensive process of transformation and modernization. MEC allocated 289 million lei for 20 projects on improvement of the infrastructure, as well as on the change of contents taught at these institutions. At the same time, decision-makers announced a new contest of investment projects worth about 210 million lei for universities and pedagogical colleges.
