Pre-Vetting Commission completed assessment of candidates registered in contest for CSP member

Chisinau, July 25. /MOLDPRES/- Pre-Vetting Commission has completed the evaluation process of the 18 candidates registered in the contest for the member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP).

Thus, 17 prosecutors of the General Prosecutor's Office, territorial and specialized prosecutor's offices and one non-prosecutor, representative of civil society proposed by the Academy of Sciences were assessed. Following the checks of their financial and ethical integrity, the Pre-Vetting Commission issued eight promotion decisions and ten decisions not to promote the integrity assessment.

Out of the ten non-promotion decisions, three decisions referred to situations of withdrawal from the competition, one decision concerned a case of failure to submit the Declaration within the 5-year deadline, and six candidates did not pass the evaluation following the full verification process. Therefore, the results show a 41% pass rate among prosecutors, and the only candidate from civil society, proposed by the Academy of Sciences, also passed the assessment.

All candidates who passed the assessment agreed to the publication of the Commission's decisions, in contrast to the candidates who did not pass the assessment, where only five out of ten agreed to the publication of reasoned decisions. At the same time, only one candidate out of the 18 chose not to be present at the public hearing, requesting to be evaluated exclusively on the basis of the materials of by the Commission.

Also, five of the ten candidates who did not pass the assessment, or 27% of all candidates registered in the competition, appealed the decision of the Pre-Vetting Commission to the Supreme Court of Justice.
