Moldova ratified European Convention for protection of audiovisual heritage

Chisinau, Aug. 6 /MOLDPRES/- The promulgation decree and the Law on ratification of the European Convention for the protection of the audiovisual heritage and the Protocol thereto were published in the Official Journal and entered into force.
The Convention emphasizes the responsibility of signatory states to adopt effective measures to protect, conserve and safeguard audiovisual heritage. Cooperation between the signatory states will encourage the preservation, restoration and access to audiovisual materials that reflect national history and culture, bringing to the fore each country's contributions to European cultural diversity. This will encourage the promotion of the distinct cultural and audiovisual heritage of the Republic of Moldova, to be recognized and appreciated internationally.
Once the Convention is implemented by the signatory states, a lot of support measures are established, efforts to restore and preserve audiovisual materials are intensified, access to cultural heritage is facilitated through various digital platforms.
The convention entered into force on January 1, 2008 and was ratified by 12 member states of the Council of Europe.
