Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union has invested, through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), 500,000 euros for the setting of photovoltaic panels with an overall capacity of 600 kW on the roofs of five district hospitals of Moldova from Floresti, Nisporeni, Stefan Voda, Cahul and Calarasi. Thus, the concerned medical institutions have lower invoices for electric energy, preserving the comfort of patients and diminishing their dependence on the imported energy resources.
The results of the Floresti hospital were assessed by the director of European Commissions Service for Foreign Policy Instruments, Peter Wagner. In November 2023, due to EU’s financing, a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 200 kW was set at the medical institution.
The EU official discussed the benefits felt with the hospital’s administration and patients. ‘’The savings are of about 20 per cent of the annual consumption and the money saved will be invested for the benefit of patients. The district hospital has a capacity of 286 beds and the institutions serves about 13,000 patients annually,’’ the director of the Floresti hospital, Ludmila Capcelea, said.
It is estimated that the panels set at those five hospitals will produce 780 MW of green electricity annually, will cut the energy costs by over 20 million lei yearly and will reduce the emissions of CO2 by 437 tons each year.
