Moldovan, Japanese officials approach cooperation

Chisinau, Nov. 12 /MOLDPRES/- Japan will continue to support Moldova's efforts to join the European Union and will support projects beneficial for the people, including in agriculture, infrastructure and industry. The assurances come from Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya made the statement, who met with Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi in Tokyo.

Takeshi Iwaya recently took office. Mihai Popșoi congratulated him on this occasion and wished him every success.

They discussed strengthening the political dialog between the Republic of Moldova and Japan, mutually beneficial cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, education, health and opportunities for Japanese businessmen. Popșoi emphasized Moldova's openness to develop the bilateral legal framework to facilitate economic cooperation with Japan.

The two officials also exchanged views on recent international developments which have a significant impact on global and regional security.

Mihai Popșoi thanked Takeshi Iwaya for the significant support, including through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. "Japan is an important partner and its support is essential for the modernization of the Republic of Moldova," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Takeshi Iwaya said that Japan will continue to support Moldova's efforts to join the European Union and will support projects beneficial to the people, including in agriculture, infrastructure and industry.

Popșoi also welcomed the organization of a new round of bilateral political consultations, scheduled for 5 December 2024 in Tokyo, which will provide an opportunity to discuss the whole spectrum of issues on the agenda of bilateral relations.

At the end of the meeting, Popșoi invited Takeshi Iwaya to attend the Moldovan Wine Vernissage, which will take place on December 10, 2024, in Tokyo, and to visit the Republic of Moldova during the next year.

Popșoi is on a working visit to Japan on November 12-13. The diplomat is scheduled to meet several officials. The talks will focus on Japanese assistance for Moldova's development, business opportunities in Moldova for Japanese investors, as well as the intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Popșoi will also meet members of the Moldovan community living in Japan.
