Moldovan economics minister, EBRD representative approach signing heating project

Chisinau, 23 October /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Andrian Candu met Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's (EBRD) Board of Directors Heinz Kaufmann on 22 October. They discussed the energy sector, common projects under development and strategy on development programmes.
According to the Economics Ministry' communication and media relations service, Kaufmann informed Candu that the Balti district heating project, which included offering a loan estimated at 7 million euros to Moldova, was to be signed on 30 October in Balti city. The money will be used for the programme on modernizing and improving Balti heating services.
"“The consumption of coal and gas for heating will be reduced, after the project is implemented. Also, we hope that the project will have a positive impact on Moldova’s energy security”, Candu noted.
In the
context, Candu stressed that the project was the first which comprised
exclusively modernization of a centralized heating system outside the capital.
Balti is the first settlement in the country that will benefit from the funds
of the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environmental Partnership (E5P).
Kaufmann
also informed Candu that a strategy on development programmes for 2016-2020 was
to be elaborated. The deputy premier welcomed the initiative and demanded that
the Moldovan government be informed about the stages of strategy’s
implementation.
Kaufmann invited Moldova to attend an annual meeting of EBRD
governors, due in Tbilisi, Georgia.
