High EU official notes Moldova's progress on European integration path

24 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has made clear progress on its European path. European
Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso made statements to this effect in
Brussels during a meeting with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party
(PLDM), Vlad Filat.
"You
have supported our efforts to align to European standards, achieve visa
liberalisation and join the European Union. You have shown that you are a safe
friend of Moldova and its citizens. We will continue to follow the European
vector to become a candidate country, and a member of the EU, with the same
determination", said Vlad Filat.
According
to a PLDM press release, Jose Manuel Barroso expressed confidence that the
country's European integration process was irreversible.
Vlad Filat also
met President Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), German Chancellor
Angela Merkel in Brussels. The German official reiterated her support for Moldova’s
European course, encouraging Moldova’s rapprochement with the European Union.
Angela Merkel reiterated that she was Moldova’s friend and strong supporter.
