One of oldest winemaking schools from Europe to be modernised

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/- The National College of Vine-growing and Wine-making from Chisinau will be modernised. A concept on upgrading a future centre of excellence at the institution was launched today. Attending the event was Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

"I am proud to ascertain that one of the oldest wine-making schools from Europe is in Moldova", he said.

The premier visited firstly a museum, where bottles of wine produced over years are exhibited, as well as a wine cellar with 1 million bottles, in need to be rebuilt. "This institution obviously needs to be modernised, we need a school to educate the best specialists, as the wine industry is strategic in our country. In one year and a half, we will have a modern institution, and the launch of this project will form competitive specialists. You are the best ambassadors of Moldova", Leanca told pupils and teachers.

Subsequently, Leanca visited the classrooms to see the conditions of study, as well as the laboratories. One of the 400 pupils of the institution, Petru, aged 19, told the prime minister he hoped to work at one of the best wineries from the country in 2015, when he graduates from the college. In this context, Leanca suggested to organize job fairs at the college.

"An orchard and vineyard will be planted within the Centre of Excellence in Vine-growing and Wine-making, and a vine nursery will be created too. A park with equipment and modern agricultural machinery is planned to be constructed, as well as two modern greenhouses and a micro-wine-making centre are to be opened. In all, about 4 million euros is needed to implement this project. The National College of Vine-growing and Wine-making was founded in 1842.
