Moldovan, Russian officials approach bilateral trade

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Valeriu Chiveri today had a working meeting with Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farit Mukhametshin, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's communication and media relations service has reported.

The sides discussed a string of issues on the bilateral agenda. They highlighted the importance of maintaining a constructive bilateral dialogue and exchanged opinions about implementation of a plan on inter-ministerial consultations, which provided for more bilateral activities by late 2014.

An important topic was focused on the current situation in the bilateral trade. The Moldovan side draw attention to the unjustified economic restrictions applied by Russia on import of more categories of Moldovan goods that significantly affected the bilateral trade of both states. In this context, the sides opted for continuing the talks, in order to identify ways of settling the present problems.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in migration sector. The officials pointed out the need to prepare for signing of bilateral agreements in labour migration, combating illegal migration and readmission, which were under negotiation for a long time. At the same time, the Moldovan side drew attention to the migration restrictions, a large number Moldovans residing in Russia were facing. In the context, Mukhametshin stressed that the Russian authorities considered opportunities of improving the situation in terms of foreigners' stay in Russia.

At the end of the meeting, the officials discussed the current evolutions in the Transnistrian conflict settlement and situation in the Security Zone.
