The staff of the MOLDPRES State News Agency deeply regrets the passing away of our colleague and friend, Constantin Tanase - an outstanding philologists, publicist with vocation and distinguished political figure.

Constantin Tanase had a tumultuous life and was looking for his fulfilment in diverse fields, permanently being on the top of the fighters for the scientific truth and national dignity. PhD in philology, editorialist, founder of the publication Timpul (The Time), lawmaker in the first parliament of Moldova, signatory to the Declaration of Independence, author of widely known books and numerous lexicographic works, Constantin Tanase was able to give brightness to the carried out work and was appreciated by the wide public and the top leaderships of Moldova and Romania, and awarded high distinctions of the two states.

He was decorated with the Medals The Civic Merit and Mihai Eminescu. Tanase was also awarded the Order of the Republic. In 2004, Constantin Tanase was decorated with the National Order of the Star of Romania, the rank of Commander, and in 2014 - the National Order "Faithful Service" in the Grand Officer rank.

He is laureate of the National Prize in the journalism field.
