Parliament speaker to attend European Parliament's meeting on ratification of EU-Moldova Association Agreement

Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Corman will participate in a plenary meeting of the European Parliament on ratification of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement in Brussels. Corman made statements to this effect at a today meeting with President of the European People's Party (EPP) Joseph Daul, on a visit to Moldova, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The European Parliament's plenary meeting is to be held on 12-13 November. In Brussels, Corman will also meet President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and the leaders of the EP's political groups.
The two officials also approached the political situation in Moldova before the parliamentary elections and the progress made by Moldova in getting closer to EU.
”The visit of President of the European People's Party Joseph Daul, just as the recent visit by the leader of the Party of European Socialists, Sergei Stanishev, represents a signal of solidarity for the Moldovan pro-European parties and Moldova's European integration,” Corman said.
Igor Corman voiced hope that a larger pro-European coalition than the present one would be set up after the 30 November polls. The coalition's priorities will be continuing the enforcement of the Association Agreement with EU, justice reform and bolstering confidence of people in the state's institutions.
For his part, Joseph Daul reconfirmed the EPP's support for Moldova and its European integration.
The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament approved, with the majority of votes, the ratification of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement on 16 October. So far, the Association Agreement has been ratified by the parliaments of Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Malta.
