Moldovan speaker, PACE delegation discuss parliamentary polls

Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Igor Corman today had a meeting with a PACE delegation headed by Jean-Claude Mignon, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The
PACE delegation pays a fact-collecting visit to Moldova on 5-6 November to
assess the way of holding electoral campaign and political climate before the
30 November parliamentary elections.
Corman
touched upon the PACE’s support for implementing the reforms in Moldova, as
well as the domestic political situation before the parliamentary polls. “Our
country has constantly benefitted from enormous support on behalf of the
PACE, and the November polls represent a test of democracy in Moldova”, he
said.
The
speaker voiced hope that after the 30 November polls, a solid pro-European
majority would be in the parliament, meant to continue implementing the
Association Agreement with the EU. “We want the elections be free and fair, and
Moldova continue to register success on democratisation”, he noted.
For
his part, Mignon appreciated the achievements recorded by Moldova over the past
years. “We congratulate you for the remarkable progress of the recent times. We
know you made efforts to the country’s democratisation and we realize the
authorities’ will to hold free and fair elections. I believe that the polls
will be held in a favorable climate”, he said.
The
talks were also focused on the provisions of the draft laws on financing the
political parties, transparency of media owners and local public finances,
messages sent by political parties in the electoral campaign, development of
voting process for Moldovans from the country and from abroad and the situation
in the region.
The
delegation will prepare a monitoring report on Moldovan parliamentary polls,
which will be presented to the PACE Bureau. A PACE delegation will visit
Moldova on 27 November to monitor the polls.
