Chisinau to host meeting of GUAM Parliamentary Assembly

Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament will host the seventh meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM). The event will be take place on 10-11 November, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported. 

Attending the event will be MPs from Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Moldova, representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation of Black Sea Economic Cooperation, of parliamentary assembly of Turkic-speaking countries and Visegrad Group, as well as diplomats and government representatives. 

The main issues due to be discussed at the meeting will be focused on inter-parliamentary cooperation between the GUAM states, authorities' efforts in solving current conflicts in the GUAM and impact on stability at the regional and international level, GUAM-EU cooperation, European integration in the GUAM member states and cooperation within the Eastern Partnership, prospects for collaboration between GUAM member countries in the economic and trade sectors, ensuring energy and information security in the region, e-government and tourism development, fighting international and organised crime. 

At the opening of the event, Parliament Speaker Igor Corman, Polish Sejm Vice President Elzbieta Radziszewska, Georgian Deputy Speaker Zurab Abashidze, Vice President of Baltic Assembly Giedrè Purvaneckienè, Head of the parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan to GUAM PA Elton Mammedov and GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili. 

At the end of the meeting, the MPs will issue a communique and a joint declaration of MPs representing GUAM, Baltic Assembly and Polish Parliament. 

In 2014, Moldova holds rotating presidency within GUAM and GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, which is to be taken over by Ukraine. The Moldovan parliament hosted the GUAM PA meeting in 2006.
