Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/ - Ten deaf young people of the two banks of Dniester were employed within a project carried out with the financial support of the European Union and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Project Coordinator Veronica Capatici made statements to this effect at a today news conference

Capatici said that the project "Say No to Discrimination" was implemented on November 2013 - November 2014 in Chisinau and Tiraspol. EU and UNDP provided about 26,000 dollars for the project's implementation. Forty young people with special needs were involved in the project.

"Those 10 young people were employed at a mini publishing house and companies making clothes and shoes. But, three of them have left abroad as they have relatives there," Capatici said.

Capatici added that good laws, which allowed the employment of people with disabilities, were in Moldova. On the other hand, Veronica Capatici underlined that "many employers say that they will invite to interview persons with special needs, but they do not do it, the main reason being probably the disability".

"During the project, few cases of discrimination of people with special needs were reported. A person was denied the providing of a credit, because of the fact that the bank's policy did not include such situation. Another young man was discriminated at a furniture company. But, these cases were not officially recorded. Many of people with special needs are afraid to appear on TV. They got used to the fact that they are marginalised," Veronica Capatici said.

Within the project, an anti-discrimination flash mob took place in Chisinau, a job fair for disabled persons was organised, a guide in the Romanian and Russian languages was published, which to help people with special needs and identify a case of discrimination. At present, about 180,000 persons with disabilities, out of which 5,000 deaf children and adults, are recorded officially in Moldova.
