Moldovan, European officials address Association Agreement ratification, cooperation

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/ - President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz reconfirmed the European Parliament's support for Moldova's European path and implementation of the Association Agreement with EU at a today meeting with Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Corman, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.   

Igor Corman thanked Martin Schulz, as well as the parliamentary groups of the political families the Moldovan pro-European parties are member of for the efforts taken so that the ratification of the Association Agreement to be possible as soon as possible. 

Corman said that the today vote of the European Parliament showed that a strong partnership was between Moldova and the European Union, especially at the level of parliaments, which was strengthened by the ratification of the Association Agreement. „We are happy with the fact that for so many times the European Parliament was solidary with the Moldovan citizens and included on the agenda the ratification of the Association Agreement as priority, thus transmitting another strong signal of support for Moldova on the eve of the parliamentary polls from 30 November,” Corman said. „The association with EU is the safest way for Moldova's economic development and for providing better living standards for all Moldovans,” Corman added. 

The two officials also referred to the next steps to be taken by Moldova, in order to implement the Association Agreement and key priorities to modernise the country. In the context, the sides broached the creation of the Parliamentary Association Committee, which would bring together representatives of the Moldovan and European parliaments. The committee will be in charge of monitoring the implementation of the Association Agreement. 

The officials also approached the local situation on the eve of the parliamentary elections of 30 November, regional context and Moldova's ties with the neighbouring states. 

Also today, Igor Corman will meet the rapporteur of the European Parliament for Moldova-EU Association Agreement, head of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Petras Auštrevičius, head of the Delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Committee Gianni Pittella, MEP Andi Cristea, as well as other representatives of the political groups in the European Parliament.
