European People's Party encourages reforms initiated by Moldovan government

Chisinau, 14 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Iurie Leanca met Vice-Chairwoman of the European People's Party (EPP) Group responsible for Neighbourhood Policy, Euronest and European values, Latvian MEP Sandra Kalniete this morning. Other EPP members also attended the event, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The sides exchanged views on the country's European agenda and discussed regional developments.
"Thank you for yesterday's vote in the European Parliament, for the ratification of the Association Agreement and the approval of a resolution stating that it was not the last stage of the process of rapprochement to the EU. I was in the north or the country and I conveyed the importance of this news for Moldova to the locals", said Iurie Leanca.
The prime minister also spoke about the government's determination to continue reforms to modernise the country and align Moldova to European standards. The prime minister called for greater support on behalf of the European Union to combat corruption and carry out the justice reform.
For her part, MEP Sandra Kalniete said that the Association Agreement provided many opportunities and benefits to Moldovan citizens. "I am proud that the European Parliament ratified the Association Agreement and Free Trade Agreement by a large majority. The Association Agreement is an important step in the development and modernisation of a country. The initiated reforms must continue, and we are by your side and we will support you", said Sandra Kalniete.
The European Parliament ratified the EU - Moldova Association Agreement on 13 November. The document includes political association and economic integration between the two sides.
