Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - The EU offers an additional sum of ten million euros for three new projects on the justice reform in Moldova. The announcement was made during the Technical Assistance for the Justice Reform conference. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca also attended the event, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The projects aims at supporting the justice system, increasing efficiency, accountability and transparency of the courts in Moldova. This assistance also includes the pretrial investigation field, prosecution and defence organisation in Moldova.
Premier Iurie Leanca said that reforming the justice system and eradication of corruption were imminent if we wanted to live in a better country, where people feel protected by the law and equal before it. "Any negative experience a person experiences in relation to the justice system, does not simply affect that person - it affects the state and the citizens' trust towards the act of justice in general. And it is a situation that we can no longer tolerate, "said Iurie Leanca.
The prime minister also spoke about the actions undertaken by the government, specifically the Justice Ministry, through the implementation of the Justice Sector Reform Strategy. He also stressed the importance of EU's higher level of involvement such as the arrival of an EU Rule of Law Mission (EUJUST). The mission mostly provides for judges, prosecutors and officers from the National Anti-Corruption Centre to be assisted in their work and monitored for a period of two to three years.
"We expect these launched projects to give further impetus to the implementation of the justice reform. Thus, you will have a more accountable, transparent and independent justice system, which will have a positive impact on the everyday life of all citizens of Moldova ", said Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola.
Previously, the EU has provided financial support amounting to 60 million euros for the justice reform.
