New cut down to fuel prices in Moldova

12:12 | 18.11.2014 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/ - The biggest petroleum companies reduced the price of petrol and diesel oil by 0,20 lei per litre today, as a result of diminishing of quotations to petroleum on the international markets.

The price for the most requested petrol Premium cut down to 17.95 lei per litre compared to 18.15-18.20 lei as it was previously. The gas stations also announced the new price to the Euro diesel fuel, respectively 16.85-16.87 lei per litre, by 0,23-0,25 lei less than the previous ones.

The diminishing in price of fuel was the result of a meeting organised by the Economics Ministry with petroleum companies' managers, who assured that they would reduce the price by 0,20-0,30 lei per litre.

The businesspeople said that the price cut they made inflicted them losses in situation when the exchange rate was unstable.  The official rate of the Moldovan currency (leu) again got over the psychological threshold of 15 lei per dollar today.

The price of Brent petroleum with delivery in December decreased in the mid of past week under the level of 80 dollars per barrel, to the lowest level ever reached over the past four years, due to signs that the Organisations of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) does not want to diminish production, in order to limit the offer in excess.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca requested, at the past week cabinet meeting, for a more significant diminishing of prices of petroleum products in Moldova. The cut down to petrol and fuel oil prices in Moldova by about 0,50 lei per litre was a „cosmetic” one and does not mirror all trends on the world market of petroleum products, Leanca said.
