Chisinau, 24 November /MOLDPRES/- The northern Floresti district has benefited from a 6.5-million-euros investment, due to which drinking water and sewerage networks were built in the district centre and other five villages. This was possible thanks to the implementation of a project titled: „Water Companies Development Programme”, backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB) and Neighbourhood Investment Facility (NIF).

Floresti is the second Moldovan district, after Ceadir-Lunga, to complete all works within the project. After the project's implementation, about 6,500 district residents, over 2,000 private households and main social institutions were connected to the water supply system. The length of the water pipes built within the programme is of 169.5 km. The necessary equipment to efficiently serve and exploit the aqueduct was also purchased. At the same time, Floresti is the first district to also benefit from an remote meter reading system.

The above-mentioned programme's goal is to promote reform in the sector of water supply and sewerage and create models of independent operators able to provide services at European standards. The project's budget is of 30 million euros and includes the districts: Ceadir-Lunga, Leova, Orhei, Hincesti, Floresti and Soroca.

At the same time, another project, financed by EBRD, EIB and NIF, is implemented in northern Moldova. It provides for the creation of a regional operator based on the Soroca-Balti aqueduct. The Floresti district also participates in this large-scale programme.
