Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - The first Centre of Excellence and Acceleration in Technology and Design (CEATD) will be created in Moldova. A memorandum to this effect was signed in Chisinau today.

The document establishes a public-private partnership between the Education Ministry, Technical University of Moldova, on the one hand, and the Competitiveness Enhancement and Enterprise Development II (CEED II) project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Employers' Association of Light Industry Moldova (APIUS), on the other hand.

The Centre of Excellence will be a resource centre specialising in technology and design in the light industry by providing a creative, technologically advanced and cutting-edge environment. The centre will contribute to improving the technical competences and skills, to creating a global vision and a flexible attitude of students, young designers and professionals in the concerned branch.

CEATD will have a total area of about 800 square meters, will be created in the space provided by the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) and will be strategically located nearby the UTM Faculty of Light Industry. The centre will offer educational activities and spaces will be equipped with specialised equipment. A co-working space with access to an electronic library, magazines, books and textile samples will be created within the project.

USAID CEED II will provide financial support to furnish the space for the centre and provide it with multimedia facilities and cutting-edge production equipment. The private sector represented by APIUS will contribute with education resources, instructors, practical projects and mentoring programmes.
