Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/ - The United States congratulated the people of Moldova on the 30 November parliamentary elections and urged the Moldovan political leaders to move quickly to form a new government.
According to a statement by U.S. Department of State Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf, “The United States urges Moldova’s leaders to move quickly to form a new government that will serve the Moldovan people, by fighting corruption, promoting reforms that spread the benefits of European integration, and finding a comprehensive and peaceful settlement for its Transnistria region.” The American official added that “the future of Moldova belongs to the Moldovan people, and we look forward to working with the new government.”
At the same time, Marie Harf expressed concern about a decision to remove a contender from the electoral race. “The OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) found that the technical conduct of the elections yesterday was in line with international standards and norms. We share ODIHR’s concern with the decision of Moldova’s Central Election Commission to remove one party from the ballot only a few days before the elections,” the statement says.
