Chisinau, 3 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Alegeri (Elections) State Automated Information System was down for more hours on 30 November. This did not affect the electoral process in terms of ensuring the citizens' right to vote, counting ballots and tabulation or results. The Central Election Commission (CEC) made statements to this effect.
According to a press release issued today by the CEC, in the first hour of work of the polling stations, the electronic system functioned properly. Subsequently, the Commission received more notifications on technical problems related to the connection to the system. Even though the system has been earlier tested both in capacity and safety, by the same operators, on Election Day, it did not last for more than one hour, says CEC. Technicians swiftly identified the causes and the connection was restored. At the same time, in order not to jeopardise the electoral process in this period, operators processed information manually.
The press release also says that the first findings of specialists in the field of information technologies shows that the shortcoming was caused by the excessive loading of the system with unknown tasks for the moment, other than those specific to its core function. Presently, a group of experts is examining the causes behind the temporary malfunction of the system. CEC will publish these reasons subsequently.
