Moldovan prosecution to investigate lawfulness at top bank

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/- Under notifications submitted by the special managers of the Banca de Economii (BEM, Savings Bank) and the Banca Sociala (Social Bank), the Prosecutor General's Office has started investigations on the lawfulness of the actions of the former administration of these financial institutions and decisions taken before the setting up of the special administration by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
The investigation is to study the reports on infringements of the legislation, unveiled by the special managers of the concerned banks, as well as information due to be presented by the BNM, audit materials which will assess the BEM’s activity and other information by the relevant administrative institutions in the sector. According to a press release by the Prosecutor’s General Office, “on the basis of assessing the materials due to be presented, the encroachments upon the legislation will be established and the respective procedural decisions are to be taken.”
At the same time, the Anti-corruption Prosecution and the National Anti-corruption Centre complete the investigations on the previous criminal files, focused on the infringements committed by the Banca de Economii's administration in 2007-2011. At the same time, a criminal file on granting fraudulent credits, with the involvement of BEM’s decision-makers from the concerned period, is under consideration at the Buiucani court of Chisinau.
