Moldovan, Chinese officials discuss economic cooperation

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/- The 7th meeting of the Moldovan-Chinese intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation was held in Beijing, China, on 4 December.

According to the Economics Ministry’s communications and media relations service, the meeting was chaired by Moldovan Deputy Economics Minister Octavian Calmic and the head of the Europe and Central Asia Department of the Chinese Ministry of Economic Development Ling Ji.

The meeting was focused on issues of common interest for both states.

In this context, the sides agreed, in the nearest future, to work out a road-map for the economic circulation Silk Road, present a list of viable investment projects, create a joint working group on free trade agreement, modernise the railways and finance projects in this sector, contribute to development of marketing in wine trade, launch more active cooperation between the representatives of agriculture ministries and continue a more intense cooperation on attracting investments in the industrial parks and free economic areas of Moldova etc.

At the end of the meeting, the officials signed a protocol of the commission, memorandum on launch of the economic circulation Silk Road, an agreement on economic and technical cooperation and a memorandum of intention on development and initiation of exchanges in wines trade sector.

Calmic met Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan and exchanged information about economic developments recorded in the bilateral ties between the two countries. At the same time, they approached issues of the current investment climate in Moldova, trade exchanges and enlarging the spectrum of goods, development perspectives proceeding from the opportunities in the free economic areas and industrial parks, stimulating financial instruments.

They sides pointed out the need to launch talks on an eventual free trade agreement between the two countries and creation of a joint working group to make a feasibility study on accord's elaboration.

Also, the sides noted that the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, which have recently entered into force, provided new opportunities for Chinese investors to develop cooperation in agriculture, electricity, communications, renewable energy, infrastructure etc.
