OSCE Ministerial Council adopts declaration on Transnistrian conflict

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - The OSCE Ministerial Council, held in Basel, Switzerland, on 4-5 December, adopted a string of documents, including a declaration on five-plus-two talks on Transnistrian conflict settlement, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The document reconfirms the firm determination of the OSCE participating states to identify a comprehensive and peaceful solution to the Transnistrian conflict, based on the observance of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and working out a special statute for Transnistria, which will guarantee the rights of the residents from the region.
Under the declaration, the officials also voiced hope for the advancement of negotiations on those three topic-related baskets included in the five-plus-two format's agenda. The document encourages the fostering of contacts between the Moldovan and Transnistrian authorities, as well as the regular nature of these negotiations.
The sides are urged to promote the confidence building measures and refrain from actions which might destabilise the situation in the region. At the same time, mediators and observers in the talks are called on to enhance coordinated efforts and use their potential to record progress in achieving a comprehensive solution to the Transnistrian conflict.
